4 Issues Facing Moms Giving Birth

Nothing could be more exciting for a couple than to wait for their bundle of joy to come out! Along with that excitement though are some issues that you have to face and deal with immediately as you welcome your baby to this world. Here are some issues that you need to know upon giving birth.
1. Bathing your baby. Newborn babies need not to take a bath everyday as they are not yet used to cold environment. You may only give him a sponge bath and be careful of the umbilical cord to avoid infection.
A cotton swab with alcohol can help to dry the umbilical stump, unless your doctor suggests different directions. When the umbilical falls off, you can have your baby bathe in a shallow tub.
2. Caesarian Delivery. One of the issues that a mom undertakes is how she will deliver her baby. Caesarian delivery is being done due to complications in their in their body system.
Although the C-section is safer for the baby, it takes a longer time for you to recover from the incision. Some also complain of pain in the abdomen even after several years.
3. Circumcision. Some physicians may suggest having your baby circumcised upon giving birth.  Although circumcision is said to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections and penile cancer, the decision is still yours to make. If you have decided to have him circumcised, you should seek advice from your doctor on how to treat the wound.
4. Crib Death. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or crib death is one of the most common causes of death among babies under one year old. Although there had been studies conducted, the cause of SIDS has not been definitely pinpointed. The following characteristics have been identified from babies who died from this situation:
- born prematurely
- have smokers at home
- have mothers who smoke or took drugs during pregnancy
- have mothers who gave birth under the age of 20
- have siblings who previously had a crib death
- were put down to sleep on their stomach
Males are at slightly higher risk of SIDS than females. Low birth-weight infants, twins and other multiples are also at high risk. Health experts recommend having your baby sleep on his back to reduce the risk of SIDS. This way, there would be a better flow of air for your baby to breathe.
